Since 2006, Layla has developed extensive experience in a wide variety of Family Law matters.

Expertise

Layla has experience in all areas of Family Law matters relating to both children and financial matters. From simple Binding Financial Agreements to complex matters before the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia and the Court of Appeal.

Some examples of recent matters include:-

• jurisdictional arguments of orders made in relation to Family Law matters abroad (in both conventional and non-conventional countries);
• representation of clients interstate;
• acting on behalf of clients in relation to relocation applications.

Layla has also defended injunctions restraining a party’s departure from the Commonwealth of Australia.

Personal Statement

Since starting with Somerville Legal in 2010, Layla’s extensive experience and excellence in her field have been recognised with an appointment to the position of associate.

Layla adopts the practice of advising her clients of likely outcomes as opposed to merely “telling someone what they want to hear”. When giving legal advice, Layla takes special care to consider the long-term effect the matter will have on her clients.

In this way, Layla and her clients are able to work together to provide the best possible outcome for the client.
